Parents as Teachers (PAT)
Parents as Teachers is a home visiting program that provides parent education and support to families with children from prenatal through kindergarten age. The PAT vision is that all children will develop, learn and grow to realize their full potential.
Parents as Teachers promotes optimal early development, learning and health of children by supporting and engaging their parents and caregivers. This is done through parent educators partnering, facilitating, and reflecting with families.
There are four basic components to the program:
Personal visits
Group connections
Resource network
Child screening
The program has four primary goals:
Increase parent knowledge of early childhood development and improve parent practices.
Provide early detection of developmental delays and health issues.
Prevent child abuse and neglect.
Increase children’s school readiness and success.
