Reach Out and Read is a national early literacy program working with Sanford Pediatrics to share the lifelong benefits that result from families reading aloud to their children every day. Children are given a "prescription" to read daily for at least 15 minutes and given an age appropriate book during their Well Child Check-up. By integrating these experiences into pediatric care and providing the tools and encouragement families need to read aloud together, Reach Out and Read is transforming pediatric care practices and giving children of all backgrounds and means a better start to life. ​
