Child Care Resource & Referral

Early childhood educators and child care programs are supported through mentoring, grant opportunities, trainings, access to our resource library membership and more! Important data is also gathered on child care needs and trends.

Child Care Resource & Referral (CCR&R) refers to an interrelated set of services to families, child care providers, employers, and communities that:

  • facilitate access to early care and education and school-age child care options for families

  • improve the quality of those child care options

  • provide objective information for planning and policy development to the public and private sectors

Services available:

  • technical assistance for early childhood programs to support and improve quality childcare

  • grant opportunities for indoor classrom improvement

  • provides educational materials through our resource lending library

  • provides information on state licensing requirements

  • mandatory and elective training done by staff, regional specialists and other experts in the field

Looking for child care in Chatham, Harnett, Johnston, Lee or Wayne Counties in NC?
Child Care Search can help you find a child care program that meets your family’s needs.

There are three free and convenient ways to obtain referrals to child care programs in your area:

  • Call 1-855-231-8717 to speak with a child care referral counselor. You can leave a message and they will return your call as quickly as possible and no later than one business day.

  • E-mail referral@chathamkids.org to request that a child care referral counselor contact you.

  • Click here to search online.


Child Care Search has a list of all licensed and many license-exempt child care programs in these counties, including centers, homes, preschools and afterschool programs. They can even help you find evening or overnight care or programs that provide transportation. They are available by phone Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. Child care search includes cities such as Pittsboro, Selma, Smithfield, Sanford, Siler City, Goldsboro, Lillington, Erwin, Clayton, Dunn and more. This service is free and confidential. They offer referrals, not recommendations.
